Tarklin Bayou State Park
If you are visiting Perdido Key, Florida you must visit the Tarklin Bayou Preserve State Park. The natural beauty of this local spot is a fun birding trail and is home to four species of endangered pitcher plants. This Florida preserve was a great place for me to enjoy the rare and endangered plant species with my husband. We love wildlife and to be outdoors, but not always biking or hitting the beach. This nature walk through a beautiful park was the perfect way to enjoy the sun and see what Florida has to offer. The rare, white-top pitcher plant and other hundred rare plants and animals were really interesting, and to learn they can only live life in this wet prairie habitat. I had no idea that this was home to an alligator snapping turtle and Chapman’s butterwort. The boardwalk was a romantic and educational walk with my husband through the beautiful Florida Tarkiln Bayou that we will never forget. If you are up for a hike you can hike through the nature trails to observe the rare animals and plants but if you are like us we enjoyed a picnic for the day. If you feel like a more active day you can enjoy a day-hike across the park to the Perdido River, which we plan to do very soon.
