Less Developed
There’s an amazing quality to every beach, everywhere, although not as apparent on more developed and especially, overdeveloped, coastlines. The refreshingly natural side of Perdido Key is greatly appreciated by its fan base. The salt-shaped live oaks, the faux rosemary, and the quiet water of the Intracoastal Waterway are part of the wild beach that still exists here. You catch glimpses of it in the vacant lots and public accesses. Then it stretches out, in all of its splendor, for 8 miles at the Gulf Islands National Seashore. A Blue Heron flying by squawking, a red fox darting across the road, deer grazing on the golf course, or maybe even a manatee munching sea grass under a dock, are sights not to be taken for granted. Perdido Key is still a paradise.
