I went out to the beach yesterday afternoon to check on a few of our condos and took a couple short videos. I also snapped a couple pictures. Please excuse the quaility as it was with my blackberry, because I had not planned on it prior to leaving the office.
Several guests were asking what the beaches looked like, because they had heard Perdido Key on the news. Luckily thing are still nice out. Conditions may change, but here are a few visual aids for peace-of-mind.
Here's another video...

To Our Guests,
We have received several emails and phone calls concerning the oil spill from our guests and wanted to take this opportunity to touch base with you. Currently, the beaches of Pensacola Beach and Perdido Key are open. There was an advisory that indicated people should not swim if they see oil in the water. This to me was a common sense reminder which was coupled with a word of warning to not pick up tarballs if seen along the beach.
What does this mean to me and you? Well my wife and I have a 5 year old daughter and, although I have not seen any oil slick type substance on the beach or in the water, when we recently went to the beach we played in the sand, threw a frisbee, built an uneven sandcastle and played tag while mom laid out on a beach towel. This was provided by the Perdido Key Chamber of Commerce this morning.
Note that the photo was taken this morning at Perdido Key Beach. So far, no sign of oil here!
We are hoping that it stays this way!

The beaches have not been shut down and I do not expected them to be shut down. However, several of out guests have called to ask questions such as, "what about the beaches? are the closed? who makes that call?" I pulled the answers from the Escambia county Health Department Website (ref. http://escambiahealth.com/recent_hot_topics/2010/oil_spill.htm)

The Perdido Key Chamber of Commerce recently sent out a update concerning the situation in the Gulf and asked that we pass the word on... Perdido Key still has not been affected!
Perdido Key Chamber Email:
June 2, 2010
Like you, we are all watching the news and we are all concerned. However, for the moment, all is well and our coast is still clear. Please help us spread the word that nothing has come ashore yet, and Perdido Key is still a safe choice for vacationing. It's possible that we may be only minimally affected with some scattered tar balls that are easy to clean up. It could be worse, but we don't know for sure.
We want to assure you that we are dedicated to being the trusted source for travel planning, before, during and after this situation. Please check
